The name, Soroptimist, means “best for women”, and that’s what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimist are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.
Soroptimist members belong to local clubs, which determine the focus of volunteer work in their local communities.
Soroptimist International of Modesto North was chartered on April 23, 1973. In those 38 plus years Soroptimist International of Modesto North has supported many local causes and provided funding for community resources and services. Among the club’s current service projects are the Soroptimist Community Christmas Tree which is a joint project with Soroptimist International of Modesto. Our club also supports re-entry women through the Training Awards Program . . . giving a cash donation to assist these women to complete their educations to re-enter the job market.
We also offer two scholarships at the Modesto Junior College.
Fundraising events include our Fall Holiday Fantasy . . . which includes a silent auction, entertainment, food and drinks. The 2011 Holiday Fantasy was held November 4, 2011, at the Martin Petersen Center in downtown Modesto. Addionally, we sell Entertainment Books and Scrip.
